FMS Cross Country Starts the Season Strong

Penn Laird, VA — The Caisson runners had a great start to the season at the Eastern Mennonite High School Cross Country meet. The team bested all the private schools including VIC rivals New Covenant, Blue Ridge, Eastern Mennonite, and Miller School while finishing 4th of 9 teams. A team from 2A division East Rockingham finished first.

Freshman Dietrich Larson medaled by finishing 11th overall in a field of 69 runners with a time of 20:15. He was followed shortly afterwards by junior Aiden Bowman (18th) with a time of 20:36. Junior Jeffrey Billings (25th) was next in 21:16; sophomore Eli Lianez (34th) ran a 22:36 and sophomore Nathan Zapata (41st) rounded out the scoring five with a time of 23:25.

We are mostly a young team that has not had a great deal of racing experience. But the runners rose to the challenge and gained important experience for next Saturday’s meet at Wilson Memorial High School in the Augusta Invitational.
